Police Sgt. Marla Wilson had been on the street for four years inearly 1996 when she met her K-9 partner of the next 10 years.
Sagor, a German shepherd, was put down on Tuesday morning due tohealth problems. He had retired from police work two years ago.
Ms. Wilson said Sagor, 14, was best known for his publicdemonstrations at nearly every city district school.
Sagor was born on March 5, 1994, in Budapest, Hungary. Two yearslater, he joined Ms. Wilson in St. Joseph on the midnight shift.
Together, the team tracked illegal narcotics, searched buildings,searched evidence and apprehended suspects. Two other dogs, bothHolland herders, made up the K-9 unit for much of the time they wereon the street.
The national useful life span for a police canine is five toseven years, police said.
